About

An Atlanta based oil painter, Lisa Tantillo uses her work to explore the relationship dynamics and tensions between the natural world and the rapidly industrializing human world.

Lisa earned a BFA in Painting from the University of Georgia. After college she continued her education mentoring with professional oil painters such as Martin Wittfooth to grow her oil painting practice and career.

Lisa's process begins with monochromatic underpaintings in oil paint and linseed oil to establish value. After they dry, she applies thin layers of pigment and refined linseed oil in hundreds of thin washes over the course of weeks to months—and occasionally up to a year—to build depth and bring color and life to the piece. Once complete, the work is varnished and set in a hand-built frame.
